Wythe was born in 1859 in Cochran Mills, PA. Growing up she always had a penchant for writing and covering whatever goings ons she could in her small town. Naturally that led her to pursue journalism which was a newer field for women at the time. In 1887 Wythe went undercover and was admitted into the infamous Blackwell’s Island Asylum.
